    Ashramshala of Wagher Community

    from Dwarka, Gujarat

Education is a fundamental right. The Government of India has been working relentlessly to make quality education accessible to the remotest parts of the country. Now, here’s a catch. We want to stress on the quality of education because, without quality, survival in the 21st century becomes a big challenge. Unfortunately though, even after 75 years of independence, quality education is a dream for rural children.

In the Okhamandal and Kalyanpur blocks of Devbhoomi Dwarka District (Gujrat), lives an underprivileged Wagher Community. Not surprisingly, their young generation is far from receiving quality education.
The discouraging poverty of the Wagher residents steals the children’s opportunity for higher education. Given their living conditions, they are bound to start with any unskilled job to earn daily bread. The condition of girls is worse than that of boys. Their parents still regard female education as unnecessary and only allow their daughters to attend school till the 8th grade. Sadly they are proved right because of the ineffective education in their locality.

Further adding to their misery, the youth of Wagher fail to get industry jobs because they don’t have the “necessary skills”. We can’t blame them? It is practically impossible for them to acquire those skills without smart learning, and quality education.

Background-
The Okhamandal block is situated at the Indian border in the state of Gujrat. There are 91 primary schools and 17 high schools in the Okhamandal block. All of them lack digital education and as you might have guessed, their admission rates are really low.
Recently, the Gujrat Government has established Ashramshalas for the Wagher community. We at Suzlon Foundation want to exploit that positive change and install computer-based e-learning systems in two such Ashramshalas.

Solution-
The children should get proper exposure to all the subjects, along with practical simulations of their theory. Secondly, all children should get accurate guidance keeping all societal and budgetary constraints in mind. This guidance should ensure that the children are made aware of the various Government schemes in their interest of future education. A computer-based e-learning system can fulfil these requirements by connecting the Wagher to today’s world of infinite possibilities.

Suzlon Foundation is supporting the Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) for the region’s overall development. We have been advocating for women's empowerment and raising awareness for life-changing education.
For the computer-system installations, we are working closely with Prof. D. S. Ker (Founding Director of GVT Dwarka) of the Okhamandal Vidya Extension Centre.

Outcome-
The Wagher of Okhamandal come from a backward community. When their children will get quality education, we can foresee a progressive change that will work wonders for the community.
The e-learning computer system will help the children connect with the world for a better, insured future. With their enhanced potential, these children can then conquer good industrial jobs for a brighter tomorrow.

Support-
This initiative will start a domino of positive outcomes. The resource-poor community will begin with the much-demanded development. The society, as well as the industry, will flourish with novel educated youth. These youth, in turn, will then help others to overcome the educational barriers. Along with the GVT, we request your support for this much-needed educational reform.
