Please help me get my husband, Arup, back to me and our 7-month-old son. He contracted Covid-19 and is being treated at ICU of Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata, since 21st May 2021. He was in Non-Invasive Ventilation support initially. From 3rd June onwards, he is in ventilator (FiO2 80%). In view of need for long term ventilation support, doctors conducted tracheostomy on 12th June. He has contracted additional infection which has eventually led to sepsis.
As of 24th June, the hospital bill amount was Rs. 32.41 Lacs. The daily incremental hospital expense is around Rs. 1 Lac. Such high expenses are impossible to bear for a middle class family like ours. Arup is only 36 years old and he is a lawyer by profession. He is the sole bread earner for the family of five members including me, our son and Arup’s parents. We contemplated on moving Arup to a government hospital without compromising the quality of medical care. However, his current condition does not permit a transfer.
Our friends and family and Arup’s colleagues have been very supportive. With their help and insurance coverage (Rs. 6 Lacs) we shall be able to collate Rs. 26 Lacs. The next step is to liquidate our assets, which unfortunately will take some time.
Doctors could not tell us for how long Arup will in ventilator support. They could only state that the recovery is a very long process, it will take a lot of time.
Under these helpless circumstances, unable to think of any viable alternative, I humbly appeal to each of you to help us continue Arup’s treatment and save his life.
Yours sincerely
