    Arundhati

    from Chitradurga, Karnataka

Arundhati is a shining example of how transgender persons can overcome tough times and stand on their own feet. She's a social justice activist and a transgender woman who lives near Kolahal village in Chitradurga District, Karnataka. Arundhati who belonged to Mandya district, moved more than 250 kilometres away and made a new home in Kolahal to realise her dream. There, she took small piece of land on lease, built a shed and started goat farming. With a lot of hard physical labour and grit she increased her livestock to 43 goats and 5 sheep, she lived on income from her livestock enterprise. She is a role model as she dared to choose a challenging livelihood option unlike her sisters most of whom are depending on begging and/or sexwork for a living.  she could take care of herself and also became someone whom others looked up to.

Arundhati has always been a strong pillar in the transgender community, showing others how to stand tall despite tough times. Sadly, on the night of 25th October 2023 thieves took away all her 43 goats and 5 sheep, worth about 8 lakh rupees. This cruel act took more than just her animals. It shook the foundation of her dream of leading an independent life.

After the theft, Arundhati took immediate action and reported the crime to the local police. She did everything within her power, but unfortunately, the thieves haven't been caught, and her goats and sheep are still missing. Now, she's feeling really down and is in need of support to rebuild her enterprise.

Sangama, a non-profit organisation is mobilising support to rebuild Arundhati’s enterprise. We are launching this fundraising campaign to gather donations to help her during this challenging time. All funds raised will be transferred directly from Milaap to Arundhati’s bank account.

We are collecting money to help Arundhati to buy goats and sheep, fix up and make her shed safer so this won't happen again. This campaign is not just about financial support, it's about standing in solidarity in the time of major crisis.

We aim to raise INR 8.5 lakhs to make up for what Arundhati lost. It's a big amount, but with your help, we think we can reach it. Every small donation helps and moves us closer to our target.

Come with us. Let's offer hope and help Arundhati get back on her feet.

She's not just doing this for herself, but also for the community she cares about so much. Arundhati’s success as an entrepreneur will inspire many more transgender people to become entrepreneurs.
