SAVE ARINDAM BATTLING FOR LIFE WITH POST-COVID LUNG FAILURE COMPLICATION: ONLY EXTENDED ECMO AND LUNG TRANSPLANT CAN HELP NOW!
Greetings!
I am Sangita and I am here to raise funds for my husband, Arindam Moitra (49 years), who was diagnosed with severe COVID Pneumonia and respiratory failure. This second wave of COVID has been especially tough on our family as Arindam lost both his parents a month ago in quick succession. Arindam did his best to take care of his parents after they were infected with COVID and in the process got infected himself. Arindam was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, New Delhi on 8th May 2021 and was put on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support on 14th May 2021 due to severe lung infections. After being on ECMO support for more than 23 days, his lungs do not show any sign of revival, and thus extended ECMO support followed by a lung transplant is the only option to save his life. We contacted AIIMS, New Delhi and we are currently on a waiting list on a priority basis.
So far we have spent around INR 20 lakh (USD 28,000) on Arindam’s treatment as daily hospitalization expenses are in the range of INR 70,000 – INR 100,000 (USD 1,000 - 1400).
To save Arindam’s life by conducting a lung transplant, we need around INR 1.5 Cr (INR 150,00,000/ USD 210,000). Please see below the break up of the estimated medical expenses:
Recurring daily expenditure in ICU during the waiting period: INR 80,000 – INR 100,000 (USD 1000 - 1400) per day till the Transplant surgery is performed.
Recurring daily expenditure of ICU: INR 1 lakh - INR 1.5 Lakh (USD 1400 - 2200)
Pre Lung Transplant Workup: INR 4.50 Lakhs - Rs.5.00 Lakhs (USD 6250 - 7000)
Bilateral Lung Transplant Package: INR 35.00 lakhs (USD 48,600) (Includes Routine Drugs, investigations, and Disposables.)
ECMO: INR 8 lakhs – 10 lakhs (USD 11,200 – 13,900)
Transportation logistics: INR 5-12 lakhs (upto USD 17200) (depending upon the distance & mode including air ambulance)
I have now exhausted all our life savings and will be running out of funds in the next few days. Arindam, a public health management professional, has been working passionately for more than two decades to improve the health status of the most marginalized sections. Arindam always wanted to spread happiness & worked hard to improve our lives. And now he is fighting for his own life!
Sulagna (15 years), our daughter, and I appeal to you to save Arindam.
But despite all the treatment efforts and prayers, he passed away. Hence we are now converting the Medical cause campaign to a Memorial cause campaign which will help our family for future support (for basic necessities of the family, education of the child).
Requesting all to please extend your possible support. Thank you.
Sincerely yours
Sangita Moitra (wife) & Sulagna (daughter)
