"Mai doctor ban na chahti hoon. Fir mai saare mareejon ka ilaaj karungi aur Corona bhi khatam kar dungi." - Cheshtha, 8 Y.O.

We seek your support with this COVID-relief fundraiser to help the families of daily wage labourers from the slums of Jaipur in keeping their children in school. The project aims to raise funds, thus enabling 500 children from the community to study for free this academic year.

Dreams don't cost anything, but achieving dreams comes with its own price. COVID-19 has not only exposed people to new and much more vulnerable realities, but it has also stripped off the dreams of many. And as part of recovery from this crisis, children from Sitarampura Kachi Basti of Jaipur need your support to paint their dreams true and continue education.

Why the Project? With the hovering economic crisis due to COVID-19, children's education in India will face a setback with families struggling to afford school fees and needing an extra pair of hands to support the family. Furthermore, this may result in increased drop-outs from schools, especially for girls.

The dwellers of Sitarampura Kachi Basti of Jaipur are facing the wrath of the dwindling financial situation of the families due to COVID-19 which is now affecting the education of the children. With the earning members of the community striving to sustain livelihoods, facing pay cuts or job loss, and with no or limited wage work the households are pushed into poverty. With families becoming financially insecure, prioritizing a child’s education takes a backseat

About the Project: To help these families sustain the education of their children and to keep them in school, the Indian Women Blog is launching a new fundraiser project for children's education. We have been operating two educational centres in the basti, 1) for class LKG to Class 6 and 2) for class 7 to Class 12 for the past year. We are planning to transform our primary education centre into a government recognised school by September 2021.  We have 18 teachers teaching 9 subjects including Hindi, Mathematics, English, Science, Economics/ Geography, History/ Political Science and Sanskrit. We also look after the holistic development of the child by introducing extracurricular activities such as English Speaking Classes, Personality Development courses, Chess classes, Entrepreneurship class, Coding class, etc. on regular basis. Our computer lab inside the Basti provides education to 250 children at the moment.

Through Milap our project aims to raise funds, thus enabling 500 children from the community to study for free this academic year.

Number of children to be benefited from the fundraiser: 500
Funding Goal: 36,00,000/- (36 lakhs)

What has IWB done as COVID relief for the community?
Our team has been consistently working on COVID-relief work for the past three months in many slum areas of Jaipur, including the community at Sitarampura Kachi Basti. In these months of incessantly working to provide ration and free medical camps for these households, we have earned the priceless trust of the community - who are now our family.

IWB organized multiple large-scale COVID-19 Relief Drives wherein we:

  1. Distributed over 2,00,000 (2 lakh) food packets worth INR 40,00,000/- (40 lakhs)
  2. We provided up to a substantial ratio worth INR 10,50,000/- to 1500+ families.
  3. IWB provided medical aid and health & hygiene kits to around 100 pregnant women.
  4. IWB organized medical camps that aided the treatment of over 3000 people. We have provided free medicine to 500+ people.

About the community: The community members of Sitarampura Kachi Basti are chiefly from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups (DG) with similar livelihood profiles. Most households are badly hit by COVID-19 with no or limited liquid income as the earning members are mainly daily wage labourers, sweatshop workers or have petty jobs, etc. Children have limited access to education with only one Govt Secondary School in the vicinity and two expensive private schools. Many children have and will drop out of schools pertaining to the financial setback to their families.
