Kiwi was found languishing on the streets of Uttar Pradesh. She looked at homes fondly and wondered what it would feel like to live inside one. She often thought of a life beyond the streets, inside well furnished homes where something was always brewing in the pot and food was served on a platter, that animals born on dusty roads didn't know about.
A life full of dignities where grief didn't mean isolation and love didn't equate to desolation. Dogs like Kiwi, sat outside these homes in amazement, wagging their furry bottoms hoping that one day life will not be these incessant struggles and heartbreaks.
Always a moment away from being tossed into the air by a car coming at break-neck speed, battling older territorial dogs and sifting through the dross, using cold rocks as pillow and stealing bits of sleep under the starry sky and thinking of a place called home. She continued to persevere and walk these roads alone with open ditches waiting to trap her. And just like that, she was found by one of the members of our charity.
Our charity The Modern Mowgli has been in action for the past five years and seeks to give our INdogs the respect they deserve but have been denied, for so long. We seek to build a better world for animals born on the street, where there is recognition, not dismissal, of their pain and suffering and celebration of their souls. We couldn't afford to lose Kiwi, we brought her in and she instantly made herself at home. Dogs like Kiwi, once battered and starved, do not take something as trivial as an afternoon nap for granted.
We waited for many days for someone to take interest in this girl who had stolen our hearts. Our pleas fell on deaf ears as people simply scrolled by her post. But Swetha paused long enough on her story and imbibed Kiwi in her heart. She felt a tug on her heart strings and saw her future daughter looking back at her. Isn't there always a "catch" with everything great in life?
The family lives seven seas away in Kansas City, USA but they cannot stop dreaming about having her four little muddy paws in their home, all over their linen and their hearts. They are funding her journey considerably. But we are still falling short. The funds raised will help cover the cost of flying, crate, microchipping and paperwork required.
