It has been 9 months since the first wave of COVID-19 and lockdown which was followed by multiple socio-economic problems. With ongoing health, finance, and mental health concerns, this year has been especially difficult for students of all ages. As the education sector has resorted to online mediums, it is becoming exhausting for students and teachers to keep up with the studies. However, no matter how practical online education seems in times of a pandemic, we must not forget that majority of people in this country cannot afford it.

To be able to study online, a student needs access to gadgets & good internet for a long period of time, consistently, every day. Along with it, they need to pay fees, have proper study materials, resources to attempt practicals, exams, internships, participate in activities, etc., they need a stable home environment too. Students from marginalized communities and low-income groups are left to fend for themselves while having their whole education at stake. Following is only one such case.

34 Students from various Delhi University colleges who are currently staying in Delhi are in need of smartphones & laptops to continue their college. These students have moved here from various towns all over India. Their written and practical exams will be starting next week and will continue the following month and without accessing gadgets they wouldn’t be able to attempt their exams properly or at all.  Hence is the urgency of this fundraiser. It should be kept in mind that college fees and overall (rent, food, study materials, etc.) expense of staying in Delhi is a significant amount of money that can become a burden on any student at any point of time. This leaves the students from low-income groups at the edge of dropping out or not being able to do well in their studies.
