Migrants - You are not Alone! #IndiaFightsCorona

Due to Corona virus suddenly India had to be locked down so that the virus doesn't spread. One of the unintended adverse effects of this was on migrant labourers who overnight became hopeless. In the absence of employment and wages, and with strict orders to remain wherever they were, possibilities of hunger distress became more prominent for them.

At this point, Disha Foundation, having worked with migrants for almost 2 decades came to the fore to help them with food rations and hygiene kits so that migrants can stay away from hunger and also protect themselves from Covid19. Disha Foundation wants to tell these migrants that YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

Disha has been helping migrants since Day 1 of lockdown but needs more funds since the demand is huge. Also, these effects on migrants won't be limited till the lockdown period but extend for 1-2 months afterwards. Disha needs funds for then too.

Disha wishes to reach up to 10,000 families in various locations in India to help migrants. We currently want to distribute two things:

1) Food ration kit: Consisting of 2 kg rice, 5 kg wheat flour, 2 kg cooking oil, 0.5 kg pulses, 0.5 kg gram,1 kg sugar, 200 gms of 4 different spices, 250 gm tea, big packet of biscuits, 3 cloth washing soaps, 4 bath soaps. This will last a small family for up to 2 weeks. Price per kit: Rs. 1500

2) Personal hygiene kit: Consisting of 2 bath soaps, 1 cloth washing soap, 1 hair oil, 1 hair shampoo, 1 toothpaste, 1 toothbrush, 1 comb, 1 washable reusable cloth mask. This will last an individual for up to 2 weeks. Price per kit: Rs. 150

You can donate funds to use specifying how many of either or both kits you are sponsoring and we will use the funds accordingly.

The condition of migrants has been changing throughout the campaign and lock down period. Initially we began helping migrant workers by providing food rations and hygiene kits. Later we also provided psychological support and help to many of them through govt to return back to their origins. Now, we are preparing for the post-lockdown scenario for migrants by providing them livelihood support, linkages to govt schemes etc. We need your continued support to this campaign so that we keep on helping them.

This week we managed to distribute sanitary pads to women in migrant shelters and in tribal villages in Nashik district with the help of Nashik district government. While many had responded to the need of providing food rations and other items, this vital item needed by women was being overlooked. We thank the donors here for their continued support to enable this.
