The COVID-19 pandemic marks an unprecedented time in modern history that will require the best of humanity to overcome. The new coronavirus has taken thousands of lives and spread to nearly every country in the world.
In regard to the recent lockdown in Delhi, many people are left stranded without money who are dependent on daily wages. Adhikar Foundation initiated reaching out to daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers, and drivers in Jamia Nagar, Okhla.
Many of these rickshaw pullers who live in cramped rooms with 10-12 members are largely dependent on small hotels and food joints for their supper. With the shutdown of those services and the lack of space to cook their food, our foundation decided to deliver cooked food packets to them.
We deliver these packets at people’s doorsteps to avoid any mass gathering and are using safety measures like sanitizers and masks.
The food distribution drive was started from 23rd March and then we expanded our reach after three days when the funding increased to Jantar Mantar, Sukhdev VIhar, Connaught Palace, Bhogal, Nizamuddin, Jangpura, Lodhi Road, Karol Bagh, Kashmere Gate and other parts of South and Central Delhi & New Delhi with feeding 2000 individuals on an average on daily basis.
Adhikar Foundation has a team of 50 volunteers who are working tirelessly towards ensuring that not even a single person sleeps empty stomach every day until the lockdown gets over.
We have fed around 75000 individuals to date and planning to expand our reach and Adhikar Foundation also stands to affirm if further the calamity persist but we pray it shouldn’t and soon people could return to their daily routine.
