Hi, my name is Anahit Bindra.
Unemployment continues to be one of India’s biggest problems, facing about 25% of our population. The pace of job creation remains far lower than required in a densely populated economy like ours. Among the unemployed and poor in India, who primarily live hand-to-mouth, destitution is common.

Sew the Divide seeks to combat the problem of unemployment as well as the lack of clothing. For this initiative, a self-help group of 12 women (at present), with basic sewing skills, has been set up. We collect surplus fabric from designers and warehouses which is then stitched into shirts by these women. Furthermore, these will be supplied to non-profit organisations and distributed by them in slum areas of New Delhi. The women are now producing masks to contribute toward the shortfall of PPE equipment in rural areas. At present, 6 NGO’s in New Delhi serve as our distribution channels.

Given increased widespread poverty and unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic, we really need your help to alleviate the needy from their poverty- stricken state. Your donations will be used to pay the women for the stitching and material costs and will have a double impact in tackling both unemployment and deprivation.
