My name is Shreya Jose and I am here to raise funds for Akshay Benny who is 7 years old.
As the world is crumbling due to COVID-19, this one boy's life has completely changed. Akshay Benny is a seven-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a form of blood cancer. Fortunately, it is treatable. However, the cost of the treatment is exorbitant. The hospital is covering a portion of the cost, yet the expense is more than Akshay's family can afford.
This is not the first time Akshay's family has been struck by tragedy. Akshay's father faced a gruesome accident in his workplace, which resulted in him being bed-ridden. Akshay is the youngest of three children. The only breadwinner in his family is his grandmother, who only earns the minimum daily wages. Therefore, Akshay's family's income is below poverty lines.
Apart from the medical expenses, the family faces a lot more adversary. Due to the ailment, Akshay's immunity is quite low. Hence, he cannot travel through public transport, especially in the middle of a pandemic. He requires private transport which is a luxury his family cannot afford. For the treatment, Akshay has to spend months in the hospital. The rent of the hospital ward is costly, and will not be covered by the hospital. There are a few expensive medicines that the hospital is not willing to cover.
