I am a Teach For India fellow teaching 87 kids, of 7th standard, Literature and Social science at a low-income school in Ahmedabad. I am in my 2nd year of fellowship and through my last 15 months of teaching, I have observed that in any class one would find 20% to 30% kids who are very good at academics, but just because the rest of the kids are not interested in these subjects like Maths, Science, Social science etc we tag them as dull or failure. Which eventually leads to self-doubt and humiliation for themselves.
We do not realize that they too have the capability, they just need to believe that they can do it. This may not be through teaching traditional subjects, but it can surely be done by exposing them to other extra-curricular subjects which will create their personality and self-belief.
With this same belief, I want to expose 15 of my 7th-grade kids to the world of drama/ theatre where they will find themselves, question their beliefs, become more self-aware and start treating themselves, seeing themselves as a more capable person.
I have already talked with a drama instructor who has agreed to teach theatre at a concessional rate of Rs. 4500/ month for 6 months.
Request you to please contribute to give these kids an opportunity and a reason to prove themselves and bring some positive change in their own life.
