AICA is an initiative of Kalai Koodam Academy of Performing Arts Trust, managed by renowned Bharatanatyam artiste and research Scholar L.Murugashankari. This is a drive conducted to promote, propogate and preserve the Classical Art forms of India. The main aim is to reach out to the youth and children in schools and colleges in order to make classical arts understandable to them and thereby igniting an interest, passion and respect for the arts, which represents our glorious heritage.
Through AICA we conduct lectures demonstrations at schools and colleges, which is presented in the form of an interactive session with a short Bharatanatyam performance, making it easy to understand classical arts by all, after the introduction and explanation that is provided prior to it. THIS FORMS AN IMPORTANT PART OF CULTURE STUDIES WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR HOLISTIC EDUCATION. We firmly believe that this will be instrumental in the overall personality development of the students, helping them evolve as better human beings. It also strengthens their knowledge about our culture and heritage, which is the NEED OF THE HOUR. This initiative is done to create a BETTER and CULTURALLY RICH TOMORROW without any personal gain in mind.
AICA ACROSS SOUTH TAMILNADU CONDUCTED IN 2017
AICA Dance festival 2018, our newest venture through this initiative, is scheduled to happen on June 24th 2018 at the Chamber of Commerce Hatsun Hall at Madurai. We are bringing four exquisitely beautiful Classical dance forms to Madurai, Sattriya (Assam), Odissi (Orissa), Kathak (UP/Rajasthan), Kuchipudi (Andhra). Artistes representing these four classical dance forms are invited from different parts of India like Kolkatta, Delhi, Chennai etc. Bharatanatyam will be performed by a few senior students of Kalai Koodam Academy of Performing Arts, Madurai.
The total Expenses for conducting this festival is 2 Lakhs, which includes Auditorium rent, Lights, Sound, Stage décor, Artiste Payment, Artiste Accomodation and food, their local hospitality for 2 days, Publicity, Printing Expenses, etc.
In the past, it was the Kings and people from the Royal family and the temples that patronised arts and supported the artistes. Today, we do not have that set up. This is a time, when taking up performing Classical arts as a profession is not economic at all, because we artistes do not get paid (most of the time). However, at AICA dance festival, we make sure that the reputed artistes invited are provided accommodation, food, refreshments, local hospitality and a nominal allowance which will meet the travel expenses of the artistes as well.
How is this possible? We cannot do it alone. We, as a trust request for sponsors from those magnanimous people who we know in person. But we are still falling short of about Seventy five thousand rupees (75,000 Rs). This, we hope to raise by crowd funding, by requesting both friends and strangers, who want to help in safe guarding, preserving and propagating our arts to contribute. Today, you are the true patrons of art. Please do donate what you can for this cause and kindly spread the word to your friends as well.
