Beta Thalassemia major is a genetic blood disorder where the patient’s body cannot produce their own hemoglobin or red blood cells and hence require regular blood transfusions once in 3 weeks.
Aditi has been undergoing this process known as Thalassemia management for the last 13 years. Unfortunately, frequent blood transfusions result in Iron Overload. Getting this Iron load eliminated is known as Iron chelation and requires the insertion of a syringe which is connected to a medical thal pump that administers the Iron Chelation medicine into her body into her abdomen for 7-8 hours, 4-5 times a week. These iron chelator medicines are very expensive with monthly medical costs ranging from Rs 13000 - 15000 per month.
For Aditi's lower middle-class working family based in Bengaluru, these ongoing costs have been quite a challenge. But now, due to the ongoing pandemic, the family has been unable to meet these medical expenses for the past 15 months.
This is a humble request to kind-hearted people to come forward and help Aditi's parents provide her the life saving medical treatment. Thank you.
