We are a group of four social workers actively raising funds and supporting a slum very badly affected due to torrential rain during the pandemic. Our names are Rose Mary, Maria Shirley, John, and Jeanne. This slum situated in Jakkasandra in South Bangalore is housing around 200 families. Heavy rains on 11th October caused a flood that displaced them, leaving them scattered. The flood took them by storm on the 21st of October while our team was there and had reached the knee level by 3 am. Our team moved in time to their rescue and are at present providing them with clothes, food, and drinking water.
We have got them a temporary shelter in a nearby building with the help of the authorities and local police. We are helping them with water and also provided them with ration kits. The greatest problem facing them now is sanitation and hygiene for their toilets and bathrooms. The next greatest challenge is they are expected to move out in 10 days from now with nowhere to go to, apart from the former shanty which is deplorable. We continue rendering our support in whatever way we can so with the hope that one day they will stand strong on their permanent sites. The government has allotted sites for these people but it isn't in their possession as yet, due to unforeseen circumstances.
Drinking water and tanker water for their toilets and bathrooms are urgently required. Their other needs and requirements are as follows:
