Sujata Chatterjee, a loving mother of two, is a lively and active housewife from Thakurpukur, Kolkata. She is 58 years old. She is widely admired by everyone in the family and has maintained an active life throughout caring for others and contributing towards the society through various social activities. For the last several years, she has been actively involved in teaching underprivileged children in her locality.

Unfortunately, in November 2016 Sujata was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer which proved disastrous for her family who has exhausted all possible resources to sustain her treatment for the last one and a half years. She underwent surgery at AMRI Dhakuria under Dr Subhankar Deb. Sujata needs a total of 12 doses of chemotherapy (4 normal chemo and 8 herceptin plus chemo) and 17 maintenance medicine. Although she managed to complete the chemotherapy dose, the cost of each chemo (approximately Rs. 70,000) meant that she ended up with a massive debt of around 2.5 lakhs. She is currently unable to fund her and maintenance medicine which costs Rs. 55,000 each, and has only been able to take 8 doses out of the recommended 17. However, this maintenance medicine is crucial at this stage for her to survive. After completion of maintenance medicine her treatment will follow up with radiation which costs around 1.25 lakhs.

Sujata is putting up an extremely brave face in her battle with cancer and maintaining her calm and composure throughout this excruciatingly painful treatment. Currently, she has missed her last dose of maintenance medicine due to severe shortage of funds and it has become impossible for her to even pay for the routine blood tests which she requires on a regular basis. To sustain a long-term treatment for Sujata, we immediately need to raise the funds.
