Thats My Child is a NGO which believes every child has the right to education. We are committed to provide the right education to the less privileged children from around the state. We lead a number of campaigns and education programs to give children a better education and future. Thats My Child is happy to introduce our new campaign VINNAI THODALAAM in collaboration with Lets Make Engineering Simple team (LMES).
Education is not something scary as most of the students think nowadays. VINNAI THODALAAM is one such campaign that will help children find a new meaning in education. Students learn best when they involve completely in learning, which just a theoretical classroom session fail to provide most of the time. Our aim is to provide hands-on approach in learning science with practical experiments. In this way, we rekindle the interests of students and help them get a chance to ask questions, involve in discussion enhancing their critical thinking ability. When we answer all those questions that students ask through experimental teaching, it can never go off their mind and stays there fresh always.
We initially start our campaign from the government and government-aided schools by selecting 60 to 75  deserving candidates giving equal opportunity to boys and girls. Our volunteers along with the team of Lets Make Engineering Simple (LMES) will spend two days every month throughout a year with these students. Apart from conducting experiments on those days, we provide food for students and volunteers as well.
This campaign is just a beginning and we have a long way to go which is definitely possible when each one of us join hands and take an oath to help children around us receive the best in education.
Right now we planned to conduct the one year (June 2019 to April 2020) workshop in Pethal Aachi Girls Higher Secondary School ,Devakottai

One day of little drizzle, chill breeze, class roars, mess and noises with team assessment.
Today we recalled all that we taught in past classes making them write in their Thats My Child notebooks.
As we discussed students were able to recall the experiments that was performed.
For second half of the class we conducted team Assessment 1 in which crossword questioning about the concepts that was taught previously was given and also opposites and marking the parts were tested. Since it was a team activity there was spirit to win the assessment. In the team activity almost all teams performed well with "Dr.ambedkar team" being the winning team. Next week we will assess them for notebooks and few ideas on 3R's of plastic. We would surely reward the winning team with a little momento and the most presentable notebook keeper with something. It was nice to have Mr.Vadivel our volunteer to help us in the class today. He has clicked beautiful pictures of all our kids today.

As today[09/08/2019] could have been a holiday we had the class yesterday[08/08/2019].
In the Yesterday's class we taught students about gyroscopes and it's application with basic electrical connection next was the experiment about centripetal and centrifugal forces, we explained it's difference and it's application in real life.
An experiment was performed with similar connection like the previous experiment thus we had a connection race among the teams. We have split teams (in the first class of the year itself) which consists of both boys and girls as in school they sit apart there are constant fights happening between them.
Even in yesterday class initially we had a dispute in a group but in this connection race all the 4 sat and worked together though with faces but still they finished it first and won the race.
This was indeed a lesson on teamwork to them. At the end the faces that was frowning against each other was smiling inside in happiness. I really hope this will continue.
Probably apart from science this is what is really needed for life such lessons are milestones in our class that we are growing healthier and happier classrooms.

Thank you once again, please keep sharing and supporting. Will keep you posted.

It was a school-alone day as it was a holiday in the school, we called our students alone today for this class, we were happy to see the class strength as 28 out of 30 came specially for this class. We taught them about LIGHT, it's properties like reflection refraction etc, explaining how a periscope works with hands-on experiment was the best part. Also, we did introduce them to the concepts of basic atomic structure atoms, molecules, Polymers. For polymers, they investigated how sodium polyacrylate works and it's applications in diapers etc. Finally, it was all snow in class with the same sodium polyacrylate all around, they were sad that the snow wasn't cold enough thus these evening rains should have made them happier.

Volunteers: Mini Mintu Adarsh Lal Deepaak Saravaa, Happiest classes are just priceless, today was one.

Mini Mintu says: My teachers and whoever taught me about colours have always said when we mix two colours we get this colour, every colour combines to become white etc. I have tried doing with paints and failed to know that pigments and lights are slightly different.
Today I didn't want that to happen in my class I don't want them to go home assuming that red and blue would give us magenta without actually seeing it. Thus a class of colours with almost no other light than the spotlight yet it was very surprising to see students being so quiet and also curious to learn on this.

Using these concepts, they did a hands-on spy glass experiment exchanging secret messages with us. Also, their posses wearing those glasses was so cute. Next was the one play experiment where students were taught about the aerodynamic motion of a boomerang.
Students were very happy to see the boomerang come to their hands perfectly. Everyone was given the opportunity to explore the boomerang individually. Finally, we had a little quiz session involving questions from what we taught we were really happy to get beautiful answers from almost everyone in the class.

Thank you once again, please keep sharing and supporting. Will keep you posted.

Ayyaswami School Chrompet, Chennai

Topics: Pi and Fibonacci in nature

Thank you for the wonderful support.

We had our first class at Ayyaswami school. We were given class 8. The students looked so little than expected and were so innocent too. We introduced ourselves, the trust and the program to them.

In this class, we taught them about the value of the pi application, importance and Fibonacci series in nature, golden spiral and it's importance. But there was a little communication gap in a language we teach which we hope to get resolved as we moved about further classes.

All the students in the class were first generation learners which give us a great responsibility to teach them better. With all hopes we look forward to the next class 😁 please feel free to join us for upcoming classes next time , every month it would be conducted on second Friday and third Saturday.

We will keep you posted. Please keep donating and sharing.

Thank you!
