We need your help to develop our campus Animal Shelter. Our vision is to implement this system in every school, so that teens can be trained and employed to care for the stray animals near their schools. Then we can finally stop the suffering of street animals.

We rescue mostly puppies from the street. Many of them have lost siblings to cars running them over, dog-murdering vigilante gangs, and dog eaters. We have them checked by vets, vaccinated, dewormed, and send them for sterilization. We train and employ at-risk teens to shelter them on campus, feed them well, medically treat parasites and skin conditions, and give them essential post-operation care after their procedures. Teens learn a great deal about veterinary care, develop their skills, and develop life-long empathy for dogs.

Once the puppies are clean, healthy, and happy, it becomes easier to find caring homes for them. We have rescued and found homes for 20 street dogs in our first 6 months. We vet adopters, require references, weekly photos and videos, and do home visits to make sure the dogs are well treated. Adopters sign a strict, binding contract and are taught how to treat dogs with love and respect.

For 50,000 rupees, we can employ our teens after school to install fencing, build dog houses, feed, care for, sterilise and provide post-op care to 8 puppies. This fundraiser will not only build our Animal Shelter; it will help us create a model that can be scaled to schools across India, to stop the suffering of the friends that have loyally served humanity for thousands of years.

Akshar Forum is a revolutionary model school in Assam, India. It is a school that teaches underprivileged children how to find a rewarding career and develop their communities at the same time. It is a model that will be replicated in government schools throughout India.

Children in poverty are under enormous pressure to dropout of school, get a job, and become breadwinners for their families. Akshar Forum employs these kids in school, so they don’t need to dropout. We use child labour to fight child labour. We give students opportunities to earn money in school, learning and earning, and develop their communities at the same time. Teens are employed as tutors for younger students, as technicians at our recycling centre, and as caregivers at our school Animal Shelter.
