Baby Ritesh was 8 months old when we found him suffering from severe acute malnutrition in a remote tribal community in Rajasthan. He was unable to absorb even the minimal nutrition available from an already meagre diet, and had become very weak. We immediately referred him to the nearest Nutrition Rehabilitation Center (NRC) to begin treatment.
A child above 6 months of age requires a well-rounded diet that contains all essential nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins etc to grow healthy and strong. Good nutrition is most essential during the first first 3 years of a child’s life when intellectual and physical growth is the most rapid, with doubling of brain size and quadrupling of body weight. If a child is malnourished during these early years, much of the damage is irreversible.
In the remote tribal areas of Rajasthan, nutritionally wholesome food can be hard to come by, especially during summers when fresh food such as fruits and vegetables are scarce.
This can impair the health of children for life and can, in acute cases, even prove fatal.
Fight Hunger Foundation calls for your generous donation to provide 500 malnourished children under the age of five with a food basket called "Poshan Uphaar".
The basket contains essential nutrition-rich food items that will help them recover from malnutrition and regain their health.

Each basket costs Rs. 250/ and we provide 4 such baskets to each child. The cost of nutrition for 1 child comes close to Rs. 1100 with transportation and the basket included.

It contains basics and staples that ensure malnourished children recover completely and get a strong healthy start in life. Along with such kits, Fight Hunger Foundation, also educates rural mothers on how to prepare nutritious and hygienic food through various cooking demonstrations and counselling sessions. These demonstrations form a critical part of our nutrition and health programme. They enable Rajasthan’s rural families to raise healthy, strong children who will one day become valuable contributors to the economy.
