What if every last bite of food is utilized? What if we tell you that using this every last bite of food, we can battle hunger and environmental problems together? The amount of food wasted in India every year is enough to feed a country like Egypt for an entire year. At every wedding, party or religious celebration, food requirements are over estimated. The leftover food goes to the bin, in a country where thousands of people die of hunger every year!!!
Annakshetra is one such initiative where the surplus food from various sources is collected, preserved and tested for quality before getting distributed to the hungry and needy people. Our organization was founded in 2010 with the sole aim of reducing wastage of food, and acting as a channel between the haves and the have nots, and after 7 years of carefully analyzing the needs, we have decided to expand horizontally and vertically. We collect the surplus food from any kind of social gatherings, and distribute it to the people who are earning, but are not earning enough to meet their daily food requirements. We run our services Free of charge, meaning we do not charge the donors, nor do we charge the people who receive this food. Edible food is distributed to the beneficiaries, while the inedible food is used for compost.
We need help from the community to achieve our aim of achieving zero food wastage in 10 cities of India by the year 2025, and achieving zero food wastage in India by the year 2035. In order to achieve our goals,we require funds to maintain our enthusiastic workforce, who are working 365 days a year 24/7 to provide their services to the communities of Jaipur. Also, we need vehicles to collect food, equipment like utensils to store the collected food, refrigerators to store the food collected for distribution, and utensils for distributing food. We also need funds to maintain a compost facility for inedible food.
Saving food will not only save a life and bring happiness to the faces of millions who sleep hungry, but it will also reduce your individual carbon footprint, save water, and reduce land, water and air pollution.
