68% to 70% of rural Women in India cannot afford to buy Sanitary towels. Instead they use, dirty rags, sand, ash, leaves, grass and cow dung. Young girls lose up to 50 days schooling per year due to menstruation.
According to gynaecologists, use of alternative sanitary care measures such as unsterilised cloths, sand and ash make women susceptible to infections and diseases. *Of the 355 million menstruating women in India, only 12 per cent use sanitary napkins. The figure is abysmal, compared with countries like China, where majority of women use sanitary napkins. ( *AC Nielsen - Survey)
Every Dollar/ Rupee gathered on this campaign will go towards purchasing Mr. Arunachalam's sanitary napkin manufacturing machine and would be beneficial to the rural women where these napkins would be distributed (Made from this machine). Your contribution of as little as Rs. 500 or $25 would help in impacting a woman's life in rural India - please contribute and show your support towards Mr. Arunachalam's invention. Every little support matters - YOU matter.
