Shocked by the gangrape of Dr Priyanka Reddy in Nov 2019 , 4 alumni of IIMs and two change makers were drawn together to eliminate this scourge from India.

The Parivartan initiative was born. It has been under implementation by our NGO partners for the past 3 years. During this time, we have expanded to 8 states, grown our NGO partnerships from 3 to 8, and trained up to a 150 facilitators from these NGOs that have conducted gender sensitization sessions with around 20000 children across 8 states.
In addition, we partnered with academia at San Diego State University, London Business School and UChicago for an analysis of the impact assessment of our program to see how it moved the needle in terms of gender sensitization/equality in the children that attended these sessions.

We have an opportunity to collaborate with the Punjab Government and train children in local schools on gender sensitization with the goal of shaping mindsets from an early age. We will be using Government employed counselors and social workers to train children - a path that is cost effective and scalable, a model we hope to eventually replicate in other states.

The funds from this fundraiser will be initially primarily used to fund this effort with the Punjab government.

Our Mission: 

• Reduce the incidence of sexual violence in India over time through a gender sensitization curriculum that Nurtures dialogue over healthy gender norms and empowers children and young adults to make informed choices.
• Teaches girls and boys to treat each other with mutual respect.
• Instills healthy masculinity in boys and a healthy self-confidence in girls.

Long Term Vision: 

We will work towards scaling our program nationally through the following mechanisms:

• Have the facilitators with strong conceptual, experiential and facilitation skills develop and train other facilitators who could work with kids.
• Engage NGOs in other geos/cities.
•  Work with governments in incorporating the program into their curriculum.

Our long term vision is for every child in India to be empowered and educated to protect themselves and others from abuse and to grow up to be adults that stand up for gender equality, mutual respect and rejection of violence.

Call for funds

We expect that these funds will be used to cover the costs of the following items for our curriculum providers, and facilitators from NGOs that will get trained and then deliver these gender sensitization sessions to children to help shape mindsets.

• Travel and incidentals
