Help Us Light Up 1000 Homes In Grid Deprived Regions In India

The situation

Over 1.3 billion people worldwide live without electricity, not including those with electricity that isn’t reliable. Within India alone, over 300 million people lack this basic amenity. Electricity brings many advantages to villagers that are completely off grid.

“We live in complete darkness” said Balaji, a village laborer who we met on a recent visit to Vittalapuram, a village on the outskirts of Chennai.
Any appliance that needs electricity is not an option to these people and many of these areas have major challenges to get grid electricity. They rely on Kerosene powered lamps which are hazardous to their health as well as their safety.

The goal is to get these people clean and safe electricity through solar energy so that they are not waiting for grid electricity.

The Project

As a second phase to our successful program , Light up the future of a child 2 years ago, Mesha Energy Solutions with support from the Department of Science and Technology (Government of India ) is working on a project to bring basic lighting and cell phone charging to 1000 households across grid deprived areas in 9 different regions within India. Through this project, We are trying to raise 6 Lakhs ($ 9000) , which will support 150 homes, to augment funds that is raised from programs like CSR and other initiatives.

The grid deficient areas identified are in:
•North East – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland
•East – Odisha
•South – Karnataka, Andaman & Nicobar island
•North – Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand
•West - Rajasthan

Dear Supporters,

We have thrilled to share with you the results of the first installation that has been done in 3 different parts of Karnataka.
The first installation focused on getting 220 families on board. We successfully managed light up their houses and we also have been able to eradicate kerosene usage in their houses. The installations panned over a few days and we now have houses in the following areas lit up:

1. A small hamlet of around 30 houses in Santhebachahalli (K.R. Pete taluk, Mandya District)
2. A small hamlet of around 30 houses in Hullegalagrama near K.M.Doddi near Malavalli (Mandya District)
3. In and around Nagarahole forest area in the Kodagu region where 160 houses were lit up

Ever since the systems have been installed, on an average, these families are saving around 600/- per month. 600 rupees was the minimum spend towards kerosene and candles - which were their main source of lighting.

In the coming month we are going to light up around 300 more houses that are identified in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland & Odisha bringing about more savings.

We want to thank all of our supporters without whom this would not have been possible.

Thank you for believing in us. Jointly we will continue to help people in the grid deprived areas with quality lighting solutions.

Dear Supporters,

First of all a shoutout to all of our supporters. Without you all, we would not have made it this far towards reaching our goal.

We must share some exciting news here. We have completed the installation of around 225 systems in the region of Karnataka. The people are very happy to have received the lighting kits. This has helped impact 225 families who have now started saving money that was being allocated for kerosene and candles.

Hereafter they will be exposed to good and clean lighting helping the womenfolk and children with a healthier environment.

Pictures and video from the installation sites will be uploaded soon. Watch this space for more.

Now we move our focus to 4 other states in the East and North East. Soon we will be impacting around 360 families in the states of Odisha, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh & Nagaland.

We will keep you posted on our progress as we deliver to them our solutions.

Cheers
Team Mesha

Dear Donors,

Thank you once again for your continued support.

We have now raised 7.4 Lakhs towards our cause. This will be helping us light up 175 houses in the Karnataka & Odisha regions.

We will be doing our first couple of installations in the month of December and it will be towards lighting up around 60 houses in the Mandya area of Karnataka.

More updates on the same will be given as we do the installations.

We are still some way from realising the goal of 8 Lakhs. Look forward to your continued support.

Request you to spread the word on the project and the impact that it will help create.

Thanking you.

- Team Mesha.
