We all remember the days in our school when we were asked to do certain project; we would download and print it out from Wikipedia. We were blessed to have good internet connectivity in our schools and locality. But there are still hundreds of schools and thousands of villages in our country without internet or telephone connectivity.

We at Yaka Solutions (an IT Start-Up) believe Information & Knowledge is everyone’s right. Everyone deserves to have global knowledge. Libre Digital Library (LDL – Our Signature Project) is one such revolutionary idea to take information to the unreachable areas, which aims at digital empowerment of the students as well as teachers with functional digital literacy.

With LDL, Yaka Solutions has digitized many schools and public libraries. Data (Interactive Contents from Most Reputable Websites & Educational Institutions - Texts, Audios, Videos, Tutorials, Simulations and Animations) from internet is collected and hosted in libraries through local WiFi. Any Student or Native can now access those contents through their Smartphone, Tablet PCs or Laptop within the WiFi network range.

LDL is not any regular digital library, where either internet is provided or book maintenance software is installing. LDL is a true Digital Library, where all digital data stored (3.5 TB of digital resources - 50,000 Books, 15,000 Videos, Wikimedia Projects, etc. under CC License) and served locally. This eliminates the Internet cost. Unlike other Digital Libraries, LDL is very much cost effective and cheap. A Simple LDL Setup may require minimum hardware such as Computer, Router, Cables and Speakers. And a featured LDL Setup may additionally include few Tablet PCs and Headphones.

So far, we have implemented the same in many Tamil Nadu State Government run or aided Schools. Most of them are in Rural Area with poor network connectivity. Few of these Schools have Smart Class facility, LDL paved way to connect all these classes to the Digital Library. Students were very much excited to learn from their digital library through smart class rooms.

We want LDL to happen in every Government School, especially those which are in rural area with poor connectivity. But there are Schools which are unable to afford the cost of a Computer, Router, Cables, and Speakers. Yaka Solutions is looking for your help in transforming these Schools. We believe this fundraising will help us to raise enough funds to implement LDL in the Government Schools and Public Libraries.
