Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain region located in the Himalayas (altitude of 3,800 mts above sea level). The area is known for its difficult terrain and sub-zero temperatures, making it difficult for civil society organizations to carry out sustained interventions here. As a result, children do not have access to age-appropriate, quality children’s literature.
We have been working towards bridging this gap since 2017. So far we have provided over 6,000 children's storybooks to 60 government schools in Spiti Valley, directly benefitting over 600 children who have otherwise no books to read. With the current situation, there is an even greater need to reach every child in the valley, to ensure that they have enough reading materials.
Every single rupee counts! An amount as small as INR 100 can help us in taking a book to a child, so please consider supporting our cause! To read more about our work, please visit www.letsopenabook.org
