LECIN - Lets Educate Children In Need

    from New Delhi, Delhi

LECIN - Let's Educate Children In Need is a non-profit organisation aimed at making a change towards the betterment of society by focusing on the education of underprivileged children from slums- not just academic proficiency, but overall holistic development of every child. LECIN was founded in May 2015 by Nupur Bhardwaj, the then engineering student from Ramanujan College, University of Delhi. Beginning its journey with an enthusiastic team of five volunteers, the organization has gained reputation of a recognized NGO today. LECIN, first started their work in Indraprastha slum, grew roots in the slums at Okhla, Kalkaji and Mansarovar Park over the span of two years. Today, the organization is served by with over 40-45 volunteers and 20 interns.

VISION AND PURPOSE :
To provide quality elementary education to the slum children who are deprived of basic amenities by giving them a platform to bring out the best in them so that they can stand independent in life.

OUR WORK :
Apart from providing education to the children, volunteers in LECIN try to counsel the parents in slums regarding the importance of education in today’s world and the prospect of trying to make their children capable of bagging good jobs or creating their own employment opportunities further in life. LECIN organizes a number of activities, periodically, in order to incorporate an element of fun in the lives of the children and volunteers. Such activities provide volunteers with a chance to know children better as well as for the children, to find their talent in the best possible manner.

UNNATI - Annual Cultural Festival of LECIN :
Every year, Unnati is celebrated as the foundation day of LECIN. Unnati was held for the first time on 31st May 2016 at Delhi Public Library, Chandni Chowk, on the occasion of LECIN’s first anniversary. It is an annual cultural festival which allows volunteers and children from the different slums to celebrate the incredible initiative that led to the foundation of LECIN. Unnati involves a number of cultural activities like singing, dancing, skits, poem recitations etc, which are specially meant for the children studying under the organization to participate and give them an exposure to stage performances. A minimum of three activities are prepared by every slum. Both, volunteers as well as the children, take part in these activities. An art exhibition is set up at the event, displaying all the paintings, crafts and other articles and items made by the children. Unnati provides a platform to children and to volunteers to showcase their talents on stage. People from other organizations, family members, friends and relatives of children and volunteers are invited for the function. This year a footfall of 500 is expected.
Further, students, interns and volunteers are all acknowledged and are given certificates by the chief guest.
