It has been surveyed that a lack of cheap and hygienic sanitary solutions for the menstrual cycle for 80 % of the women in our society gives rise to innumerable ailments and hardships right from cervical cancer to kidney failure.
This also leads to a high absenteeism and drop out rate in school and college for the girls.
The super-absorbent material used in making sanitary pads by big companies or brands are 90 per cent plastic. They can cause a lot of health complications such as a weak immune system, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cancer, diabetes, hormone dysfunction and so on. Plastic products in the environment adversely affects , wildlife, soil, land, waters or humans.
Kara Foundations’ core focus is on the health and hygiene of the Girl child for which we have launched our project name ```U-VATI``` on 17th July 2017 under which we have adopted 551 girls from 11 BMC schools by December 2017 for donating them sanitary napkins for a year. This pads are manufactured by the women in need of work under U-vati project and the pads are of regular size, skin friendly, biodegradable and safe for girls to use.
The mission is to benefit more 2000 girls in the year of 2018 and that no menstruating age girl child shall miss her school or college due to lack of affordable and hygienic sanitary pads.
