Help protect the Artisan Community in India

Project Kalayatra is an attempt by me, a solo traveler,a crusade to help and protect endangered art forms in various parts of India. I am twenty nine years old and I quit my job few months ago as I set out to travel the length and breadth of India. I plan to introduce artisan tours to travelers which gives them a chance to live with and meet the artisan community in India. From the painter to the shoe maker, from the dancer to the wandering gypsy singer.

Does someone provide me funds to spearhead this initiative? No, not because I am rolling in dough, I barely have any savings left. This is not a business opportunity, I don’t want to turn it into one. I earn nothing from this project and I need your help to sustain it, I am opening Kalayatra for crowdfunding. All my services are free and will remain so, till I can sustain it. I seek funds to build a web platform and connect with more artisans, all my accounts will be publicly available to my crowdfunders.

As we proceed, I also plan to help set up an online platform for the artisans which gives them a chance at fair trade in today’s age of e-commerce boom. All this, all this is well ahead in the future. For now, Project Kalayatra remains an endeavour to bring closer those thousands of artists who use their hands to make beautiful art to the traveller. I want them to have a chance to make the choice to dream, a dream which helps their art thrive, in abundance.

Dear Supporters,

Project Kalyatra is successfully heading in the direction it had envisioned to. With the help of your support, Lekshmi had managed to group a community of travelers who appreciate different art forms. The impact of this project is seen in the encouraging feedback received through several travelers of artisan tours to Rajasthan.

Since the project is on All India level, research is still on process for building the online platform. These positive responses that they’ve received is further encouraging them in their endeavor to extend their support to uplift artisans across the nation.
