The purpose of the book is as much to inspire the younger generations as was to document 25 fabulous Ikigai journeys of grit, perseverance, and resilience. The book covers life journeys of 25 exceptionally motivating individuals including the CEO of Milaap Anoj Viswanathan, Uber Chief Products Officer Manik Gupta, Rotimatic Founder Pranoti Nagarkar, Monk Swami Turiyananda, Dancer Sussan De, Pilot Saurabh Wadhawan, Public Policy educator Nitin Pai, Bureaucrat Puneet Gulati, Social Worker Aarti Kumar, Founder of telco CircleLife Abishek Gupta, Globetrotter Baisakhi Saha, Hollywood film editor Varun Viswanath, and many more. The Japanese word “Ikigai” can roughly be translated as “reason for being”, something that makes life worth living for. Each Ikigai journey in the book started with engineering and took the person to their calling – dance, filmmaking, entrepreneurship, mountaineering, philanthropy, research, and even monkhood.
33% is being donated to Padma Shri Awardee Arunachalam Muruganantham Padman’s organization to improve feminine health and hygiene through engineering innovation. During India's COVID crisis early this year, many of the protagonists of the book came together to create Mission #SUMO which collected more than 1.3 crore INR and deployed 200 oxygen concentrators to various parts of India.
