High Kicks is an all-girl dance ensemble that specializes in performing conceptualised, contemporary global dance fusion performances for launches, corporate meets, thematic events, and more. High Kicks represented India in 2014, at the Commonwealth youth Dance Fest held in Scotland prior to the Commonwealth Games. They were one of only two companies to have been selected for this prestigious opportunity.
Now in 2019, they have the opportunity to represent India again at the Australia Youth Dance Fest with a powerful, much acclaimed performance titled, Depaysement, which portrays the life of a refugee. It throw s light on the experience of being displaced from your home country and is very relevant in today's political scenario.
This piece has been selected to be performed at the prestigious Melbourne Meat Market Venue as a part of the AYDF. High Kicks will also be partaking in a exchange residency with aboriginal dance group, Wagana Dance Company in Blue Mountains , New South Wales prior to the festival. The Wagana Aboriginal Dancers perform contemporary & traditional Aboriginal dances inspired by the Blue Mountains & Central NSW West country. They respect the Darug, Gundungurra & Wiradjuri peoples as the traditional custodians of the lands they dance on.
This would be a huge opportunity for the art-ivism work that High Kicks engages in, with respect to exchange of ideas, cultures, knowledge and life experiences with a completely different community of young women.
