Help rehabilitate Shafi. With sufficient funds, he can get adequate rehabilitation and stands a good chance at living an independent life with limited functionality.  We need funds to take him to CMC Vellore, Tamil Nadu, for rehabilitation.

Location: Vengad, Anjarakandy, Kannur district, Kerala, India.

Condition:
Traumatic Paralysis.
Paralysed 18 months ago in a lorry accident. (Spinal cord injury)
Has limited movement of upper limbs.
Almost complete paralysis below the neck.
Bedsores
Complicated urinary infection due to loss of urinary bladder control.
Hands, knees and feet has developed contractures.
Poor financial state delayed timely treatment and rehabilitation thereby worsening complications.

Medical diagnosis:
Traumatic C6-C7 Listhesis with Quadriparesis (C5-C7 fusion with anterior stabilisation done)
Autonomic dysfunction
Neurogenic bladder with recurrent urethroperineal fistula.
Pressure sores (lumbosacral)
Hands, knees and feet contractures.





Cause of trauma:
Road traffic accident in January 2017.  ( was a truck driver, the truck he was driving met with an accident)

Past profession: Truck driver

Family status:
He is the eldest of six boys. His father is an auto-rickshaw driver, the only earning member in the family. His mother is a house wife and one younger brother is a case of cerebral palsy. Currently the father is struggling to make ends meet due to poor health and difficult family circumstances. None of the other siblings are working. Shafi's daily caregiver is his immediate younger brother.

Educational status: studied upto 7th standard.

Marital status: Single

Fund needed for treatment and rehabilitation. INR 4.35lakhs

Planned interventions:

1.Corrective surgery for deformities, physiotherapy and occupational therapy at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

2.Home modification
3.Vocational rehabilitation

Extremely conservative estimate of interventions: INR 4.35 lakhs

Breakdown of expenses:

Rehabilitative surgery: INR 1 lakh
Inpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy for three months, including wheelchair: INR 1.2 lakhs
Food, personal and allied expenses for three months including travel expenses: INR 1.15lakhs
Home modification expenses: INR 1lakh

Expected outcome:
Ability to move around at home independently and manage personal care activities like going to the toilet independently.
At a later stage he can be vocationally rehabilitated to enable him to work and earn for himself. The latter will require additional funding.

Expected time frame for fundraising: 2 months.
