Help An Army Officer Walk Again

My father, Major Ravi Prakash Nayyar stood tall on the border during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and fought for the country. However, today at the age of 68, he is bedridden due to a spine injury. He has been unable to walk for almost 7 years now and has developed many other problems like obesity and bed sores due to his inability to move.

Around 2 months back he suffered a heart attack and had to go through an angioplasty which cost us Rs. 2.5 lakhs. I have already spent close to Rs. 80 lakhs on his treatment and care in the last 7 years. My father dedicated 10 long years of his life to the service of his country yet he doesn’t qualify for medical cover (one has to serve in the army for 20 years at least to qualify).
I want to see my father walk again.

My mother passed away a couple of years back and I am now his only family. My work makes me travel a lot which is why I am unable to take constant care of him. He is currently admit in Institute of spinal injuries ,vasant kunj , new delhi. This institut has a rehabilitation center where he is being given constant attention, care and the treatment he needs to stand on his feet again.

I humbly request you to contribute to help me provide the best care for my father and to ensure that he is able to move again. Please also share this story with your friends and family through Facebook and Whatsapp so I can reach more people.

I appreciate your help and support.

Thank you,
Amit Nayyar

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for the wonderful support that you have shown towards my father, Ravi Nayyar's treatment and care. It means a lot to me.

There have been a few questions about his period of service and period in the Army. Since he served in the forces before I was born, I will be able to share approximate dates with you all.

He joined the Indian Air Force in the year 1968 and he worked his way up. Based on his period in the Air Force he was presented an option to join the Indian Army. He joined the Indian Army approximately in 1970 as Second Lieutenant. He participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and came home victorious with his troops. He served in the Army till 1976 and then he retired.

The current update, he is undergoing the rehabilitation program and is showing signs of improvement. The improvement rate is slow but is definitely there. The muscles are a little on the weaker side and based on the doctors advise he is undergoing intensive physiotherapy. He is also admitted to the hospital on account of his spinal injuries and it is a slow and time-consuming process.

I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for the wonderful support. Would request you to please pray for his health and speedy recovery. Will keep you posted.

Regards,
Amit

Dear Supporters,

Thank you for the wonderful support that you have shown towards my father treatment. There has not been much improvement in his health, since the last update.

He is still undergoing physiotherapy and is confined to the bed. He needs support while getting up from the bed and while walking. The improvement is very slow and the doctors suggest that it will take time for him to regain back his motor functions.

I would like to thank you all once again for all the wonderful support. Do pray for his speedy recovery. I have withdrawn about 6 lakhs towards my father's treatment to meet his daily medical expenses. I will keep you posted as and when there is any improvement in his health.

Regards,
Amit Nayyar

Dear Supporters,

Here is a quick update for you.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have made their generous contributions.

However, the bill is rising and we need more funds so that the treatment is not hampered by any means. We are withdrawing funds to the beneficiary's account to settle the bills at the hospital.

We are also thankful to  Ayushman Khurrana, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag for helping me in reaching millions with my fundraising appeal and to all those who have contributed.

Thank you so much for your love and support.

Regards,
Amit
