This is Rahi Masoom Reza. I am writing on behalf of my brother Hasan Reza, age 22, who had a motorcycle accident when a truck came straight at him and hit him on 4th October 2017 at Jalalgarh Highway, Araria, Bihar.
He had severe head trauma, and extensive damage to his skull, throat and right eye, and had to get emergency Neuro surgery and throat surgery at Max7 Hospital, Rambagh Road, Line Bazaar, Purnea, under Dr Tenzin Gyurmey, and Dr Raj Kumar.
Hasan was in a coma for 4 months. With God's grace he has now emerged from the coma, but in very bad condition. He has to have a tube inserted for breathing and needs regular saline bottles. He needs to be tube fed as he is unable to eat or swallow normally. A portion of his skull has been removed to reduce the swelling on his brain and his weight has dropped drastically from 72 kgs to only 28 kgs. After surgery he was still kept in intensive care for an additional month. Later, as water collected in his head he was forced to be shifted back to the ICU for another 7 days.
The Doctors and hospital have done wonders to save my brother, but this life saving treatment has come at a very heavy cost. The hospital treatment, doctors fees, operation and medicines charges have cost our family about Rs. 24,45,000 (Twenty four lac fourty five thousand) and my family of 1 sister, 2 brothers and my mom have had to take loans, mortgage our home, sell the little jewelry possessed by my mother and sister, and borrow from family and friends to make ends meet.
We are now struggling even to get basic food and rations, and as we can no longer afford to pay the hospital bills for the continuing treatment of my brother, we have been forced to keep him at home. We can afford to take him only once a week to the hospital for his essential treatment and checkups. My brother is still bed ridden and I seek your assistance in helping us pay for his bills to continue his treatment, as the doctors have not given us any time line for his recovery and we do have to keep up with the medicine cost.
We humbly request your help in paying for anything that you might be able to help us with. No amount is too small or insignificant.
