What does impact look like? Who decides which students are eligible for an excellent education?
These were the questions that made me re think of my post fellowship goals. I joined the Teach for India fellowship with a vision to provide excellent education to all the children. I taught a bunch of 130 students in 8th and 9th grade. The two years with these curious, amazing bunch of learners taught me a lot. They also taught me to unlearn a lot. Within the two years I also realised how complex our education system is and how every stakeholder plays a key role in a child's education.Who decided that the only these 130 students I taught, were to get the excellent education I could provide in my capacity?
In pursuit to reach out to maximum students possible, I took up the role of Assistant School Leader in the same school I completed my fellowship in. My school, Chhatrapati Shivaji Vidyalaya, is in Dharavi and we have students coming in from the nearby slums. Now, the number of students being impacted with the help of the role I have taken up has scaled up to 1500 students from 130 students.
My role involves looking into Teacher Development, Student Outcomes and building a safe, fun and an environment that supports all children regardless of their background for across Pre-Primary, Primary and the Secondary medium.
We have some amazing teachers who go out of their way to do what it takes for our students and a bunch of amazing students who dream and aspire to reach the stars.
I strongly believe, “That where you come from, doesn’t determine where you go” and lack of resources should never be the reason for our students who are willing to take that extra mile to achieve their dreams.
As a part of my year long plan, the focus this year will be on creating spaces for students to explore themselves through various activities and building a strong school culture.
I would like your help and support to carry forward the activities planned for our students.
The following are the requirements and expenditure estimates for the coming year.
