Solace Academy is a charitable school run and manage by the Action for Women and Child Advancement (AWCA)situated at Jacintha Rehoboth,S.Munhoi Village,Singngat TD block on NH 102B). It was started in 2014 to provide quality education to underprivileged children of villages displaced by Khuga Dam construction in Churachandpur district of Manipur State bordering Myanmar .

There were 71 (Seventy one) students from preparatory to Class VII ( seven ) with 9 staff in this school in this session 2018. In 2019 ,we target 100 students.
The students of this school belong to difficult economic backgrounds displaced by constriction of Khuga Dam who have lost their land, livelihood, homes and part of their childhood. The loss suffered by the families have not been compensated by the government. The displaced families are living in extreme poverty, living from hand to mouth as daily wage labourers, burning charcoal from trees and selling them in the market.
There are no proper government schools in the vicinity and the parents of these villages cannot afford to send their children to schools in the town area. Students  walk 3-4 Kms from their homes to school everyday whether in rain or shine.

Solace Academy began as a collective need of the community under the initiative of Ms Grace Zamnu(Founder of AWCA). Establishing a school is crucial for ensuring the Fundamental Rights of children and for building healthy and resilient communities. The students are provided free facilities for computer class , musical instruments such as keyboard and library donated by well wishers apart from other extra curricular activities for their holistic development.

Ms Grace Zamnu is the first and only female member among the tribal communities of Churachandpur to be elected as a representative of the people-Member of District Council (MDC) (2010 - 2015).
During the initial years of setting up the school, the management of the school could be done by pooling in funds available for public work to be utilised by elected representatives and through public fundraising .

However, due to the breakdown of the local governance(MDC) in Churachandpur in the recent years, it is no longer possible to raise funds from the government.

Ms Grace Zamnu is a survivor of Domestic Violence who for long have dedicated her life to the cause of women and children.Through her status in the local governance and the NGO she initiated ,she actively works on issues of Violence against Women, Human Trafficking, Livelihood for women , Child rights and education etc.
What is the real concern is 80 Percent of children around this school will quit schooling if this school can't continue to run ,9 youths will be unemployed.
The  parents are unable to provide for the education of their children in town school as it is expensive and so the responsibility falls on the community at a large to ensure that children of the neighbouring villages enjoy the Right to Education and they get to learn, play and grow.

There are a number of requirements for providing education -fees, infrastructure, study materials, teaching and non teaching staff and students. Students are provided free education however, staff needs to be paid so as to be able to impart knowledge to children.

The school need  your help and support for next academic session(2019) as we strive to provide education free of cost this year.We are hopeful that this onetime donation of yours can go along way in providing not only free education to these children for one year but also encourage the parents to send their wards in school .

Most of the children in this school are first generation formal school educated and your help can only go a long way and have huge impacts on the lives of these children.
