I would humbly like to bring your attention towards the plight of my 17-year-old daughter, Uzma Jawed, who is suffering from a very rare disease called Multiple Sclerosis, and therefore seek financial assistance for her prolonged medical treatment.
Uzma started to show some physical problems 6 years ago. We started her treatment with local doctors but did not see any improvement in her health. Hence, they referred her to a Neuro surgeon, Dr. Sanatan Rath, in Cuttack, Odisha (India).
Uzma was under Dr. Rath’s treatment for few years but things started to get worse as he was unable to figure out the disease. We then took her to AIIMS, New Delhi (India), and after detailed tests and investigation AIIMS concluded that she was suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.
Multiple Sclerosis is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (Central nervous system). In Multiple Sclerosis, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between the brain and rest of the body. Some of the symptoms Uzma is having from the past 6 years are:
Treatment at “Nimhans Neuro Center” has shown us a ray of hope. Uzma has shown improvements to the treatment and medicines. She is prescribed to take an injection called Betaferon every alternative day. For her to stabilize and start a normal life, she needs to take Betaferon for the next 7 years.
It has been almost 2 years already and we have exhausted all our resources to make sure she gets the appropriate dosage of the medicines. The price of 1 dosage of the injection, Betaferon, is Rs 2,646 in India ($40 approx). Thus, a monthly prescription costs Rs 39,000 ($600 approx). Five years treatment would approximately cost Rs 23,40,000 (Twenty Three Lakhs Forty Thousand). For the prolonged treatment process our financial condition has miserably worsened and now has become very difficult to afford the medicines. I have also taken debt for Uzma’s treatment as my earnings were not enough to cover the cost of her treatment. Due to the worsening financial condition, it has become very difficult for me to afford the injection and her treatments.
I, therefore, humbly request for financial assistance in buying this prescribed injection, BETAFERON, to continue with her treatment. It is a foreign-made (Germany) injection and is imported and marketed in India by Bayer Zydus Pharma, Mumbai, India. You can help me purchase it from RS Enterprises Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore India.
Any amount of help extended would be greatly appreciated and oblige me and my family forever. We only hope and pray Uzma gets back to her feet and to a normal life again.
