    This fundraiser will benefit

child of Zuber Mohammad Kher Mohammad

    from Nagpur, Maharashtra

It was either we leave our home and save our son, or let our son die. And without an inch of a doubt, we did what we had to. We left our home for our son's sake. - Sakina, mother

Zuber and Sakina found out their son Ubedur has thalassemia when he was just 6 months old. To keep him healthy, they needed to give him blood transfusions every month. Living in a small village near Khandeshwar, where there are hardly any facilities for blood transfusions, they moved to Nagpur to provide him with better treatment.

All these years, they’ve helplessly watched their son suffer

Hospital visits, blood tests and transfusions and countless medicines - this is all Ubedur has known for the past 5 years. Every time he’s told that he has to go to the hospital, he asks his parents, Yeh sab kab khatam hoga? (When will all of this end?)".

Zuber and Sakina can't hold back their tears every time their son asks them such questions. He is scared of going to the hospital because of the painful needles and injections that frequently pierce his skin.

For three weeks he will be active and playful. But after that, his fever sets in and he is unable even get up from his bed. We know, it's time to take him to the hospital. This has been going on for the past 5 years and it has been a nightmare for us to see him in constant pain. He barely has any memories of a normal childhood.” - Sakina, mother

Ubedur now needs a bone marrow transplant to end this vicious cycle. Fortunately, his elder sister, 8-year-old Ashna, is a fully matched donor, and parents are ready to go forward with this life-saving procedure. Except, they don’t have the money to afford the surgery.

With a bone marrow transplant, these poor parents can end their son’s suffering

Zuber is a scrap dealer (kabadiwala), whose earnings are barely enough to look after his family. Zuber registered at Red Cross, Mumbai, where he was able to avail blood transfusions for free. But, he had to pay for the medicines and monthly checkups, for which even his monthly earnings wouldn’t suffice. Though Zuber is desperately trying to arrange funds for the transplant, it is nowhere near the INR 10 lakhs that he needs.

“We left our home and our family, just to save our son. It broke my heart as I watched him suffer all these years. But then, we had no other option. Now, we have a chance to end his pain. With your help, I can afford the life-saving transplant and give my son a new healthy life.” - Zuber, father

Zuber and Sakina struggled all these years in a strange town to provide their son with appropriate medical treatment. Little Ubedur has known nothing but pain since he was an infant. Now, he has a chance to live a normal, transfusion-free life. All they need is your generous help.
