About the project

Working as a social Activist I have come across the false promises of the government where rape victims were promised compensation. Though compensation cannot compensate the trauma that the victims had to undergo especially trafficked and sexually exploited victims who underwent a thousand rapes, and also seeing the plight and living conditions of many of the rape victims, and realizing the many hurdles they are having to cross even when they start filing the FIR (mentioned below) I felt there was an urgent need to create this campaign to help them in their fight for Justice. Rape victims undergo Trauma and shock (mentally, physically and financially) which only a victim and her family herself can describe. It starts with the rape, then the fear of reporting the case, as most police stations are not responsive and deter complainants. Then comes the Medical examination where in most cases of rape in the rural areas, the health centre is usually very far (20-30 km away from the village of the victim), and the police while escorting the accused, who also has to go for medical examination, the victim is at most times having to travel with the accused in the same vehicle of the police and have to arrange their own transport for the return trip. The poor family are not able to afford the fare and mode of transport in the village is not frequent and they have to hire a transport at a high cost. Then comes the presence of the victim for her statement in court which at time is 50- 70 km away from the victim’s residence. The family is asked by the police to bring the victim to the court for her statement and as most rural police outpost are ill equipped with only one vehicle at their disposal and many cases to attend to, it is next to impossible for the police to arrange a vehicle for escorting the victim to court. Here again the family is compelled to hire a transport, as the time in court too is unpredictable (when a victim or a witness is called for statement in some cases of rape the victim is asked to come another day as the Magistrate concerned, who is to take the statement is busy in other assignments.) Most of these victims come from poor and illiterate family background. With so little knowledge and no financial backup, they have to travel to the hospital, police station and court and in addition to this there are also cases where they are being intimidated, if the perpetrator is influential. I intend to disburse the fund collected from contributors to victims as follow: 3 (three) Trafficked victims and sexually exploited (Rs. 30000.00 each) = 90000.00 1 (one) Family of a minor victim who was raped and killed = 30000.00 5 (five) Raped minor victims (Rs.20000.00 each) = 100000.00
