A day before my son was born, my wife, Geeta and I were sitting at home and choosing a name for our child. It was the happiest we had felt after the birth of my first daughter, who is 2-year-old now. Who knew our happiness would be so short lived?
He was separated from the mother just after birth
I am Jitendrabhai Prajapati. My son was born on June 4, 2017 in a local hospital in Gandhidham. My wife had to undergo C-section due to certain medical complications. Even before my wife and I could be happy about the arrival of a new family member, the doctors told us the bad news. They said that my son was having difficulty in breathing. I didn't even get to hold him once! My wife did cradle him for a while, but not this unlucky father.Our baby was admitted for four days until the doctors there asked us to take him to some better hospital for treatment. They said that they were unable to understand the root of his discomfort. We then brought him at CIMS. He was finally diagnosed with Pneumonia. They doctors here shifted him to NICU and put him on ventilator. How can a father's heart not break upon seeing his baby intubated and on ventilator, his tiny arms pierced with needles and what not!
As it stands, the doctors say that my baby is getting better but he has to be in hospital for 10-12 to ensure total recovery. The estimated cost is between 3-4 lakhs and it is beyond my ability to arrange for the funds.
This father is struggling to bring his son home
I have a cycle repair shop back home and make a modest living of Rs.7,000 every month. To make the ends meet, Geeta used to take tuitions. But that too came to a stop when we knewI hate to think that even when he is just born, my baby has to go through this. But that tiny thing is so brave, fighting against all odds for his life! I just hope his father also manages to do the same. It is killing me that I don't have money to pay off my son's medical bills. I don't know how will I bring my baby home.

Son of Geetha Prajapati who is 8 days old is on ventilator support since birth. He is diagnosed with heart diseases and is in NICU care right now. The cost of treatment comes to Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000 per day which is really expensive.
