    This fundraiser will benefit

    Shriyansh U

    from Bangalore, Karnataka

”It is hard to believe how Shriyansh has transformed in just a month. He has never thrown tantrums and always had a smile on his face. Now, cancer has made him very irritable - he doesn't allow anyone to come near him. He wakes up screaming and tries to run away from the hospital room. He doesn't eat at all and hardly sleeps well. Every day is a new ordeal for us." - Umesh.

His cancer can spread to his liver, spleen and brain if left untreated

Last month, Shriyansh had a high fever, it lasted more than a week. Umesh and Mamatha took him to a local hospital and he was given medicines. When he did not get better from taking another round of medicines, they took him to a different hospital. Blood tests and scan reports revealed that he has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia - cancer that starts in the bone marrow where new blood cells are made. They can spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, liver, spleen and brain if left untreated.

"We try hard to cheer him up and distract from pain but it doesn't help"

Cancer has taken over Shyriansh's body completely. He has become too weak. His little body is not able to bear the injections and chemotherapy. He is in so much of pain that he can't even change sides while sleeping. He starts crying just at the sight of the hospital. Umesh and Mamata try to comfort him but he doesn't listen. He does not let them move from him even for a minute. He cries all day and becomes extremely tired.

"We tell him stories, we got him all his favorite toys to distract him but he doesn't stop crying until he falls asleep. He has just completed one round of chemo, he needs multiple cycles and a bone marrow transplant too. It is scary to think of the long painful journey ahead of us." - Mamatha.

His mother had to quit her job, and his father is struggling to arrange for 30 lakhs

Umesh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Christ University. He earns 50,000 per month. He has spent 3 lakh so far - he used his savings and borrowed from his friends as well. His wife Mamatha was working in a bank but she had to quit her job after Shreyansh's diagnosis. Umesh can't be regular at his job because it has become extremely difficult for Mamatha to take care of Shriyansh all alone.

"We do not have much time, we can't delay the transplant. Doctors have said that his cancer will spread rapidly without treatment. I'm scared that we'll lose our only child before we get help." - Umesh.
