    from Kodaikanal

Kodaikanal talulk is one of the most affected area in the recent Gaja cyclone. In General whole taluk suffered without transportation and electricity for a week. After 15 days of the event even now many villages are still in darkness without electricity. Our target people in the upper hills have lost their cultivation due to soil erosion during the cyclone. And a few houses were damaged.People in the lower hills have lost both their crops and houses as well. A few houses in Thandikudi area and K.C.Patti area (Kadugudhadi, Korankombu, Mulaiyaru and Valagiri, Korankombu, Eluthuraikadu etc) have been partially damaged and water entered inside their houses. They are now trying to manage the situation with the available things from the neighbourhood and the relief materials that they received from various groups.Malaiyakadu and kaduguthadi villages have been very badly affected. All their houses fell down and roofs flown in the air etc. All the 18 families have been shifted to a government building and they have been staying there last 15 days. Various groups including the government officials visit them and distribute relief materials such as groceries, vegetables, bed sheets, clothes etc. But their future is at stake. It will take long time to receive permanent house and it is hindrance for their livelihood and children's education. Also a few families in other villages are suffering in the cold since their houses are partially damaged and they have not received much to repair those houses.
Our Proposal: The people must be helped immediately to repair their partially damage houses in order to protect the rest of the house from further damage.Temporary shelters must be built immediately for the 26 families in Malayakadu and kaduguthadi and they must be helped to move from the relief camp to their respective villages.
Request:We found from our assessment that the affected people have received enough relief materials such as groceries, vegetables, bed sheets, clothes etc. Now we need to help them to repair their damaged house in some villages.
