It is nothing short of a miracle that Sajanpreet is still alive with a huge, bloated belly that keeps growing due to excessive fluid build-up. This has led to formation of scar tissue as a result of liver damage as well. He is in a pathetic state, and his parents are running from pillar to post, trying to find a way to alleviate his pain and suffering. But they haven't found a solution yet.
Urgent: Excess fluid has caused his stomach to balloon out to ten times its size.
He can no longer walk or sit because of his massive bloated abdomen
19-year-old Sajanpreet can no longer walk or sit or even bend. It is extremely distressing to watch him flinch in pain because he is no longer able to bear the weight of his distended belly. His arms and legs are losing muscle and he has been reduced to flesh and bones. All because excessive fluid build-up in his stomach is affecting his liver and hindering all his bodily functions. In class 8, he had to give up on his education because he can no longer travel to school. When he tried to do it in the past, he wasn't met with encouragement by school mates and villagers.

Angrej is a daily wage earner who anxiously waits for his phone to ring every morning hoping somebody would call him for any labour work that's available. His age is catching up with him, and nobody wants to hire him on a full-time basis. This leaves him with just 200-300 rupees of daily income. In such a condition, to arrange for INR 23 lakhs for a liver transplant while keeping up with his daily medical expenses is something beyond this means.

Sanjanpreet has a lot of dreams that are all kept on hold now but if he doesn't undergo a transplant soon, he may never get a chance to fulfil them.

"Two years ago, a sudden infection spiked my son's fever and he had to be admitted to the hospital. We thought he may have consumed contaminated food, but when the doctors explained to us how the knots in his liver are making his belly swell up, we were terrified. It turns out excess fluid accummulation caused his stomach to balloon out to ten times its size, and now his liver is failing... there's no other option but a transplant. To be struck by such a terrible condition is one thing, but to not have any money to cure it is another level of helplessness that I can't put in words."- Angrej, father

"My son feels shattered, both physically and mentally. The kids mock and bully him, and call him names. He has stopped believing us when we assure him that we will find a way to make his suffering go away." - Baljeet, mother

This family adopted a little girl whose parents passed away in a tragic accident
In 2016, a couple from their village tragically died in an accident, leaving behind their little baby girl. At that moment, it was Sanjanpreet who immediately volunteered to take care of the little girl. He requested the, to adopt her and had even started calling her his little sister."Even though our financial condition is very grim, we gave in to our son's wish and decided to adopt her, taking up the responsibility for her education and marriage. My son is her 'veere' (brother) and they are both inseparable. Today, she cries seeing her brother in so much distress and keeps asking God if he will take away her brother too - just like he took away her parents. Such innocence breaks my heart because I really want my children to grow up together, healthy and happy." - Angrej, father

If he doesn't get a transplant soon, there's no telling what could happen
Sajanpreet was first diagnosed to have a large tumour in his liver that was leading to fluid retention, and needed to be removed surgically. However, more comprehensive tests have now determined that it is actually massive ascites, a condition in which the fluids accumulate in the spaces in the abdomen, due to liver failure. This means his liver is damaged and can no longer perform its functions. If the transplant is delayed any further, there is no telling what could happen. His life will be at grave risk.

He blames himself for being a burden on his family due to his liver disease
"I want to live and do something to make my parents and sister proud. My liver disease has left me useless - neither I'm able to study nor I'm able to help my father in the fields. I can't do any manual labour because my legs have weakened and I have been reduced to flesh and bones. I feel like a burden now because they had to even sell off their house for my treatment. Now we have nothing left but only debts and it's all because of me." - Sajanpreet
