“When we heard Sagar’s liver was failing, it felt like we were back in 2017. Amir, his younger brother passed away within 6 months of his initial symptoms, we couldn’t save him. I am living in constant fear that I might lose my husband any moment now.” - Deepali, wife

“How is all of this fair?”, the family questions their fate

Amir, Sagar's younger brother, faced the same ailment and tragically lost the battle at the age of 28 in 2017. His diagnosis being in the final stages, a transplant couldn't save him. The family is now grappling to save Sagar from the same fate.

Neither of the brothers had any ill habits. They didn’t drink, they didn’t smoke… Sagar was even more cautious about his health. He centered his life around family and work. He was someone who wouldn’t miss doing his regular exercise. How is any of this fair?” - Sagar’s mother

Despite having a donor, they won't be able to afford the transplant

In August 2022, 39-year-old Sagar Patil started feeling unwell with a recurring fever and stomach ache. Little did he know that this was the onset of liver cirrhosis. As the symptoms worsened - swollen eyes and legs, yellowing eyes, and water accumulation in his stomach - the diagnosis became clear.

Now, Sagar urgently needs a liver transplant to survive. He is first on the donor list but the family cannot afford the transplant cost.

The sole breadwinner of the family, he desperately wants to survive

Sagar is not just fighting for himself; he's the sole breadwinner for his family. He works as a quality executive at a local foundry earning just enough to sustain their livelihood. With ageing parents in their 70s and two young kids (12 and 7 years old) under his care, the burden is immense. His wife, Deepali, manages the household, while Sagar, despite his condition, pushes himself to work occasionally. The financial strain, coupled with the emotional toll, is unbearable for this family.

Being 1st on the donor list is relieving but it also means arranging the 22.5 lakh rupees on priority. They've already spent 2.5 lakh, which was Sagar's lifelong savings.

The family stands at a crossroads, relying on the support of compassionate hearts to rewrite their story and secure Sagar's fight for life.
