“Rasta” owes its origin to a group of socially conscious individuals, who were disturbed at the sight of children of school going age, rummaging in garbage heaps or standing at traffic intersections with begging bowls. They got together and deliberated upon the plight and potential of such children. The result was “Rasta”, a non-governmental, not for profit organization, registered in 1994 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.
What is the problem?
So far, Rasta has educated more than 23000 children and mainstreamed 7300 children. We have touched more than 1.5 Lakhs households in excess of 78 locations in the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, with greater involvement in East Delhi, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Noida and other neighbouring areas. Rasta has started schools in areas like Khora (Ghaziabad), a sprawling unauthorised under developed Colony in Ghaziabad UP.
Khora is spread over 12 square kilometers in area but accommodates 1.2 million people, who migrated mostly from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in search of livelihood and are employed mostly as daily wage labourers. Educating children, especially girls, is anathema to them. Lack of finance or poverty is the major problem that these parents face, hence the problem for them is to pay the fees and not the quality of education provided.
Girls in Khora and nearby localities are very passionate about going to school but they are lacking financial resources make it difficult for them to get quality education. We at Rasta believe in providing these children quality education from highly qualified teachers using tools and techniques such as smart classes and methodologies which involve innovative Teaching Learning Material. We request you to support these students education with financial resources which will help them to attain quality education and become independent enough to overcome the discrimination that these girls have been facing for years.
No amount is too small and even sharing this link will help the cause in a great way.
The target is to raise funds to the tune of Rs. 450000 which will be used for a class of 30 girls - Rs. 15000/Child. Other ways to help Rasta are-
