The young couple had their second child, Preeti, nearly 10 years after their marriage just a few months ago. While everything had been fine for a while, around 2 weeks ago they both noticed that little Preeti was having a hard time breathing properly. This was soon followed by a cough that kept getting more and more intense with every passing hour. Not knowing what to do, Pramod rushed her to the closest hospital, nearly 7 kilometers away.
 

They told us she has some infection in her lungs 

Baby Preeti was diagnosed with Pneumonia, an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs get filled with fluid, causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. This can be a crippling condition for most adults; for babies... it’s life-threatening. Little Preeti needs to stay in the NICU for weeks, and if that doesn’t work she could even need a surgery. But this course of treatment can cost between 3-5 lakh rupees, a sum this family cannot afford.
 

I can’t lose my baby, please help me 

“I’m a daily-wager. Sometimes I work in construction, sometimes I work in house-shifting. For years, with what money I get per day, I’ve been able to put meals on my family’s plates 3 times a day, afford my mother’s medicines, and stash a small amount away in savings for when we have our second child. All those savings are gone now, and my Preeti needs 3 lakhs more! For some people that’s not a big amount, but for us... for us it’s the difference between my baby’s life and death.”
