His poor heart condition intensified his Pneumonia in the NICU
Mohd. Izaan was just 2 months old when he was admitted for Acute Pneumonia. After running a few tests, their suspicions of another underlying condition turned out to be true. He has a hole in his heart since birth, which can't be treated with just medicines anymore. Within a few hours, his parents were given the news of his need for urgent Heart Surgery to treat his congenital condition. Since the past 4 months, they are struggling to afford 8 lakhs for his surgery but have been running out of time and luck.
He was getting weaker because of intense pressure on his heart and lungs
"My son was in critical care in the NICU for 10 days but nobody was telling me the truth about his condition. I knew something was gravely wrong when he kept losing weight drastically every week. In this condition, Izaan's heart mixes the oxygen-rich and poor blood together instead of segregating it. This exerts a lot of pressure on his heart and lungs, shooting up his blood pressure and heart rhythm. With an open heart surgery, they will be able to prevent his bad blood from circulating in the body.
These siblings are completely oblivious to the harsh reality
A happy family, Intekhab and Khushnuma, were never prepared for such a tragedy to befall them. They were managing well with Intkhab's computer operator job in Allahabad but in the past few months, all their savings have dwindled in getting their son treated in Delhi. Their 4-year old daughter had to drop out of her school too so that their son's treatment could go on."Even before Izaan was born, Naaya would do countdowns for her baby brother's arrival. Little did we know that she would hardly get to hold her baby brother or play with him. Everyday she tries to teach him how to say her name and even reads out stories to him at night. She keeps asking us why we keep him in the hospital all the time instead of home? I just try to hold my tears back thinking about how oblivious they are to the harsh reality."- Khushnuma, mother
Izaan will be cured with one surgery and can return to his Ammi and Abbu as a healthy child. But as the days pass, they fear this might just be an unfulfilled dream of theirs. Getting his treatment done in an unknown city, his parents need a little support to save their newborn son.
