She had several health issues since birth but none of them pointed towards cancer
A series of tests later, these parents were told that their daughter’s white blood cell count had spiked up dangerously. Upon a local doctor's advice, they took her to a bigger hospital in Bengaluru and there, it was confirmed that Jyothi’s baby has juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, a rare form of blood cancer that spreads aggressively into other parts of the body if not treated immediately.“For the past 2 months, we have been staying in the hospital because of our daughter’s deteriorating health. She doesn’t drink milk. She doesn’t sleep. Every time she gets a fever, she has to be administered high dosage medicines. She cries day and night because of the pain unknown to her
The baby is currently under a treatment that is targeted at controling her white blood cell count. She will be fine for, a day or two, but then the white blood cells count increase again, forming blood clots throughout her body. Her cancer has already affected her liver due to which her liver is enlarged. The only curative option for her to beat this rare form of cancer is a stem cell transplant, which has to be done immediately or the cancer will spread to her other organs.“She just wants to be held. If we put her to bed even for a moment, she will cry. I’m not allowed to stay in the room at night and so my wife, Jyothi has to take care of her. She hasn’t completely recovered from her c-section stitches and experiences pain and discomfort every now and then. I feel so helpless seeing my family go through all of this.” - Naresh, father
Helpless parents don’t even have money to afford a decent meal for themselves
Naresh, a barber by profession, owns a small booth in his village near Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh. He borrowed INR 3 lakhs from his village locals to meet the expenses of his daughter’s treatment. Sadly, all of that has been used up. Now, with no help, he's struggling to arrange funds for the transplant.“The doctors told us that with the ongoing treatment, she’ll get better but her cancer will still persist. Luckily, the hospital has found a fully matched donor for our daughter’s transplant through the registry, but we have no money to afford the transplant. I’ve asked all my friends and relatives but even they are in no position to offer any more help. This is my only chance at saving my daughter, please save my daughter.” - Naresh, father
Jyothi’s little girl has already endured a lot of pain, and a life-saving transplant would not only be the end of her struggle, but it would also add more days to her life. Naresh and Jyothi haven't had proper food for months now, and they have been staying in the hospital with their ailing daughter. In this state, it is impossible for them to arrange INR 17 Lakhs for her stem cell transplant.
