"Mujhe bohat taqleef ho raha hai! Please madad kijiye. Hamara koi nahi hai is duniya mein. Mar jayenge hum. Madad kijiye. Hume zinda rakhiye!"
(I am in a lot of pain. Please help me. I do not have anyone else in this world for support. I will die. Please help me. Please keep me alive.)

Maktum Bi is 35 years old. Her only living family is a 10-year-old son, Ahmad Ali. She lost her husband long ago and has been struggling to survive by working as a daily wager. Everyone thought she was doing alright until they heard she was barely alive on the steps of the temple. The villagers have admitted her to HCG Gulbarga, and are struggling to fund her treatment for cervical cancer.

"My name is Alauddin. We all knew Maktum and her son. She has had a hard life. She would do all kinds of odd jobs to get at least Rs. 100-200/day so her family would survive. I don't quite know how or when they were cast out by the owner. She was living on rent. Suddenly one day, I was near the bus stand when I heard people talking about her."

Nobody knew she was begging on the streets to survive

Maktum was now begging and even living off kitchen scraps. She was starving so her son wouldn't. Her son was working for daily wages but he was not strong enough.

"One day, Maktum had heavy bleeding. She knew she was sick. She had gone to the hospital but couldn't afford treatment. When we saw her on the steps of the temple, a few of us took her to a medical camp near the village. They referred us to HCG. She has cervical cancer. We collected Rs. 20000 from the people and admitted her for treatment."
Alauddin is worried for Maktum's health. He is one of the very few men, who have stood by Maktum against most of the people who chose to abandon her.  He is feeling helpless at present, especially because Maktum's condition is worsening every second and her treatment is imperative for her survival.

"Her son will be orphaned. She is a woman who has been through enough. We cannot stand by and watch a person die, just like that. Please, help us save this woman."
