“I don’t remember the last time I slept peacefully. Every night I wake up suddenly to check on my daughter. I have to make sure she is alright. This goes on everyday… and it won't stop until I know that she is cured completely. Of late all this tension has taken a toll on my health too. Javed and his wife Sumaiya have been living an anxious life for the last 2 years. When Junnaina was 7 months old, she suffered from severe diarrhea with blood spottings. They rushed to the hospital only to find out that their baby has a critical blood disorder. Their life has never been the same since.

“They said she has Thalassemia Major. Once every 20 days, we need to give her a blood transfusion. Sometimes when I cannot arrange money on time, the transfusion gets delayed. At those times her symptoms are horrible. She does not stop crying, her body becomes very weak and she completely stops eating. It’s like a panic alarm for us, letting us know we have delayed the treatment too long.” – Javed, Father

Junnaina has to undergo a bone marrow transplant at the earliest to recover. There is no other alternative. Her elder sister Rizwana who is 5 years old is a matching donor. The transplant cost is 16 lakh Rupees. Without the transplant, Junnaina would be required to keep getting transfusions, but that puts her life at risk. Because the transfusions will soon become toxic and result in irreparable damage to her heart, liver, and bones.

Bone marrow transplant is the only permanent cure… but I cannot afford it 

“The transplant is the only solution for us now because they're saying the transfusions are becoming more and more poisonous every time we do it. I cannot afford lifelong transfusions anyway. Just in the past 2 years, I have spent more than 3 lakhs. All of that is borrowed money. I don’t know if I will be able to repay the debts anytime soon, if ever. My earnings as a school auto driver are too low to even imagine saving extra money. But now how will I afford the transplant? I have too many questions but no answers.” – Javed, Father

Javed and Sumaiya have traveled with their two little daughters from Kolhapur to Bangalore with the hope that they can somehow save their daughter from a painful life. They are exhausted financially and physically. You can help.
