My name is Raju, and I am a pastor in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. My family and I have known many struggles in life, but none have been harder than watching my son Johnley fight cancer.
He's a bright young man, full of life, and a beloved member of our church community. Always active, he loved singing and playing music. But in November last year, his life changed forever.
What started as a simple toothache turned into something much more serious
Days turned into weeks as he battled earaches, headaches, and a growing weakness. By December, blood tests revealed dangerously low platelets, leading to a hospitalization where doctors suspected dengue fever.
For weeks, we tried everything we could to get Johnley back on his feet. There were medications, injections, and a brief moment of hope when he was discharged.
Tragically, that hope was short-lived
The day he left the hospital, Johnley fell terribly sick again. This time, we were directed to a blood specialist, a doctor we later learned was an oncologist. He had us sit down, and asked us to be brave. Then he told us the truth, and the news hit us like a ton of bricks. Our son had cancer. My wife and I stumbled out of his office, then collapsed right there on the floor.
He's too weak to walk or even talk anymore
Our son has bravely endured four rounds of chemotherapy, but the fight has taken a toll. A feeding tube provides him with the nourishment he needs, and even simple tasks like asking for water are becoming a struggle. Throughout this ordeal, my faith has been my rock. But even faith can't completely erase the fear and the helplessness.
Our daughter gave up the money we had put aside for her education
In the past few months, we've spent around 16 lakhs on treatment. We used our savings, borrowed money from friends and family, and even used up the funds we had set aside for our daughter's education. She had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, but saving her brother's life was far more important to her, so she asked us to use that money.
No parent should have to bury their child
Johnley needs more treatment, and the costs are staggering. That's why I'm reaching out today, with a plea from the depths of my heart. Any amount you can donate will make a difference.
